It started with one very stressful wedding
In 2010, our founder Dana Whitfield was a counter artist at South Coast Plaza when her college roommate asked her to do makeup for her wedding. The "professional" hairstylist the bride had booked cancelled by text message at 6:45 that morning. Dana spent the next three hours doing hair she'd never trained for, makeup for six people, and learned the lesson the whole business is built on: on a wedding morning, reliability matters more than anything else.
Orange Beauty opened in a rented chair in Costa Mesa the following spring. The rule from day one: never take more weddings than we can staff twice over. Every bride has a lead artist and a named backup who has seen her trial notes. In seven years we have never missed a wedding morning. Not once.
Today there are five of us — three makeup artists and two hairstylists — working out of a sunny second-floor studio on Newport Boulevard.
